Latest Updates from Our Project:

New Year Progress Update
2 months ago – Fri, Jan 02, 2026 at 05:29:37 PM

Hello everyone! We hope that everyone has had a wonderful holiday season. We definitely ate too many sugar cookies, but someone had to do it.

New Year Progress Update

We want to talk about our latest progress update! As of right now, we are set to release version 1 of Faces of the Wild in the next two weeks. We hope you've been enjoying the preview playtest, and if you have any feedback, please message us at [email protected] so we can review.

This version 1 of Faces of the Wild is not our print PDF. Instead, this is the chance for us to order a proof from the printer, read the book as a physical book, and begin work on the Foundry VTT Module. Version 1.1 will then be printed in February after you have had a month with version 1, and you can provide any feedback you might have (like we don't know how to spell Advantage or we gave all of our NPCs the Fireball spell - which is not a mistake as far as we're concerned).

To get you excited for version 1, we also wanted to share everything you can expect in this book!
  • 92 Wilds-themed NPCs across 20 categories; spanning CR 1/8 to CR 19
  • 10 Heroes & Villains; spanning CR 6 to CR 20
  • 12 Spells
  • 8 Wilderness Equipment
  • 3 Recipes (2 Herbalism, 1 Alchemist; for use with Tool Craft)
  • 10 Magic Items
  • 10 Weapons
  • 56 Example Encounters
  • 1 Species (Koira, canine-humanoids)

We hope you're as excited as us! Thank you for your support, and our next update will go out when version 1 goes out. Until then, we hope you're having a great start to your year and that you're rolling nothing but crits.

Digital Rewards + Locking Orders
3 months ago – Fri, Dec 05, 2025 at 09:41:51 AM

Hello everyone, and a big thank you to everyone who has filled out their BackerKit Surveys already!

We just wanted to provide a real quick update as to when you can expect your digital rewards. We originally said Friday; however, there is a small hiccup. We need to first lock orders before we can share these digital rewards with everyone, so we are locking orders in 48 hours and then charging cards for shipping, any additional add-ons, etc.

This means we are unable to send out digital rewards (like Tool Craft or Adventure PDFs) until Sunday afternoon/evening. We apologize for the delay. If you want your digital rewards immediately, you can message us, and we will lock your order early and charge your card for shipping or any add-ons (if you have any). You'll then get access to your digital rewards before Sunday.

That said, today, we are still releasing the Playtest Preview containing 24 NPCs for you to start using in your games and the Primal Guardian NPC for all of our early backers. Expect an email from BackerKit with a link to download those rewards to be sent shortly after this update.

We are NOT locking in shipping addresses until sometime in February. If you need to adjust your order, you will need to message us, but you can change your shipping address at any time before February.

BackerKit Surveys!
4 months ago – Fri, Nov 28, 2025 at 05:30:50 PM

Happy Thanksgiving to our USA supporters (and happy Friday to the rest of the world).

We're excited to share that the BackerKit Surveys will be going out this weekend! Keep an eye on your inbox and fill out your surveys as soon as you can so you can get your digital rewards.

This survey will also provide your shipping costs for your order. We will NOT be locking addresses until we're ready to ship, so you still have time to update your address if need be. If you have any issues, please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can help.

With surveys going out this weekend, we will be sending digital rewards by Friday next week. This includes Tool Craft, Faces of the City, and our adventures. If you ordered physical items, those will ship at the same time as Faces of the Wild in March 2026.

Before our next update in two weeks, we will have a bundle of NPCs for you to start including in your games. This will be 25 NPCs in Faces of the Wild and will provide a solid mix of CRs, Roles, and categories, so we hope you're as excited as us!

Thank you again for your support, see you next time!

Campaign End + Timeline
4 months ago – Mon, Nov 17, 2025 at 07:12:56 PM

Hey everyone! While we typically send these updates out on Friday, we were busy at the Grand Rapids Comic Con and didn't get a chance to send out our update.

Thank you to everyone who backed this project and are helping us make this book a reality. We can't wait to have it in your hands and are making great strides to get it complete.

Now that the campaign is over, our next update won't be for two weeks, and with it, the Pledge Manager will be complete or near complete. You'll be asked to go through the survey, add any add-ons you missed, and share your address. This will be how we distribute your digital rewards (like Tool Craft and adventure PDFs), so it's essential for you to fill out this survey to get your rewards.

Timeline

As a reminder, here is our timeline:

End of November - Digital rewards (excluding Faces of the Wilds) are sent to backers
Beginning of December - Share a Playtest Packet featuring a large portion of the NPCs in Faces of the Wild (Backers only)
Beginning of January - Feedback is incorporated from the Playtest Packet
End of January - PDF v1 for Faces of the Wild is released
February - Feedback is incorporated from the PDF v1
End of February - Go to the printers, charging shipping at this time
March - Mail out all physical rewards (If you are outside the USA, your books may not arrive until April, see Shipping for more information)
End of March - Faces of the Wild Foundry VTT Module is released

Thank you again for your support!

Final Week!
4 months ago – Fri, Nov 07, 2025 at 05:42:18 PM

It's the project's last week and we're excited to have you all join us!

Before we talk about the project, I know everyone is wondering about the poll from last week and what we ended up naming our newest puppy.

Meet Scylla!

She's pretty cute for a man-devouring monster who tried to put an end to Odysseus' sailing career. She also loves her sibling, Leviathan, and they have yet to stop playing since we got home.

Faces of the Wild

And now back to the project!

We are working on creating all the NPCs for the book, and we expect those drafts to be finished by December. You'll be getting a chunk of them to use at your tables by then, and we can't wait!

For fun, here is a screen grab of two of the pages in InDesign for our Battlefield section in the book.

We are working on the book design and layout as we make the NPCs, which helps us keep everything streamlined and moving along quickly. We will also be starting work on the Foundry module, which helps us review the stat blocks as we effectively build them twice and ensure all the math maths out correctly.

Once we have some work done on the module, we'll share more information on that.

We also thought we'd share some of the articles we've been working on our blog (in case you didn't know, we started out as a D&D/RPG blog):

5 Skill Challenges for Traveling on the River
d20 Urban Quests for City Campaigns and Adventures
d100 Magical Side Effects
New D&D Backgrounds: The Poisoner
Lore & History of the Arcanaloth

Ranger Poll

Lastly, we have a poll on what your favorite rangers are! This class seems to struggle the most to have a core identity, and there are so many rangers you could think of. From Drizzt and Aragon to Geralt of Rivia and Lara Croft, there are so many choose to from.

If you don't see your favorite, share it in the comments below!
